Hear From the Leaders Building America's AI Infrastructure Future

Hadia Sheerazi
As an award-winning scholar-practitioner, I bring deep technical experience across the core issues shaping the next generation of data center development: de-risking siting and permitting processes by securing the social license for first-of-a-kind and commercial scale critical infrastructure through proactive and meaningful community outreach, education and engagement for the responsible deployment of energy- and water-intensive projects across the U.S. and globally.
My approach is deeply place-based and focused on capacity-building for developers to improve transparency, accessibility of technical and policy information, acknowledgement of known and uncertain risks across project lifecycles, and creating opportunities for host communities and other stakeholders to help co-design benefits that respond to local priorities, economic ambitions, and quality-of-life goals. My data-driven methodology has delivered successful results across sectors and geographies around the U.S. and globally, and has highly replicable and scalable lessons for the data center industry which is encountering the same set of social license challenges as renewables, decarbonization, and other types of critical infrastructure. I'm also the lead author of RMI’s most widely read report of 2024 on best practices for meaningful community engagement and designed a first-of-its-kind digital stakeholder analysis and mapping tool - S.A.M. - in use by over 2,000 practitioners in more than 10 countries.
